Trump Urges Pakistan and Other Muslim States to Join Abraham Accords

[post-views]

WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday called for several Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Turkiye, to collectively join the Abraham Accords as part of broader diplomatic efforts linked to negotiations with Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had spoken over the weekend with leaders from the countries, as well as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which already maintains diplomatic ties with Israel under the accords brokered during his earlier presidency.

Trump said the United States had invested major efforts in trying to resolve tensions in the region and argued that it should now be “mandatory” for these countries to sign onto the Abraham Accords together. The agreements were originally designed to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab states.

He added that Iran could also eventually become part of the accords once a broader agreement to end the ongoing conflict is achieved.

Despite Trump’s remarks, Pakistan has repeatedly stated in the past that it is not considering joining the Abraham Accords. Trump also said ongoing negotiations with Iran were progressing positively, though he gave no indication of an immediate breakthrough.
