World Bank delegation to visit Tarbela Dam

A team from the World Bank is set to visit the Tarbela Dam to evaluate the progress of its expansion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The delegation, made up of nine Executive Directors, has already met with the Prime Minister and other top officials. They are also scheduled to meet with key ministers, including those responsible for finance, economic affairs, planning, and energy. The discussions will center on ensuring the effective use of $40 billion in funding.

This visit is significant as it marks the first time in 20 years that the World Bank’s Executive Directors have traveled to Pakistan. They will discuss strategies for successfully implementing the Country Partnership Framework, which guides the collaboration between Pakistan and the World Bank.

The delegation will also travel to different provinces to assess ongoing development projects and shape future strategies. As part of their visit, they will tour Tarbela Lake and Power Station to review the expansion work and will also stop in Taxila.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the World Bank’s commitment, expressing gratitude for the $40 billion investment. He emphasized the strong partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank, which has lasted for more than 70 years and has contributed to many important development projects.
