In a tragic incident, a stampede at a school in Yemen’s capital Sanaa has left 78 people dead and several others injured. The stampede occurred as hundreds of people gathered to receive charitable donations during the final days of the holy month of Ramadan, according to the Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson.
The donations, amounting to 5,000 Yemeni riyals or roughly $9 per person, were being distributed by merchants when chaos erupted. The director of health in Sanaa reported that 13 people were critically injured.
This heartbreaking event has shocked the world and raised questions about the safety of aid distribution in crisis-ridden Yemen.
