Renowned Pakistani actor and comedian Javed Kodu has passed away after a long battle with multiple health issues, his family confirmed on Sunday. He had been receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Lahore for an extended period.
His funeral prayer will be held after Zuhr in Singh Pura, where family, friends, and fans are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
Known and loved for his unique presence on screen, Kodu rose to fame thanks to his short stature and powerful comic timing. He made a lasting mark in Pakistan’s entertainment industry through popular TV shows and stage performances. Some of his most notable works include Ainak Wala Jinn, Ashiana, and other hit productions that made him a household name.
In a heartfelt interview last year, Kodu had opened up about his declining health and personal struggles. He revealed that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage that left him partially paralyzed. On top of that, he was battling heart disease and had undergone major stomach surgery. The actor also spoke candidly about his financial difficulties, saying that while he hoped for help from friends, many were themselves struggling due to rising inflation.
Tributes poured in following the news of his death, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the veteran entertainer. The prime minister called Kodu’s passing a “huge loss for the media and arts industry,” adding that his contributions would be remembered for years to come.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to Javed Kodu’s family during this difficult time,” the prime minister said in a statement.
