Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has stressed that Pakistan must urgently strengthen its infrastructure to protect citizens from recurring flood disasters, declaring that the state “cannot afford the loss of precious lives and properties every year.” His remarks came during a visit to Kasur and Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan, where he reviewed relief operations and flood damage.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief received a detailed briefing on the ground situation and ongoing rescue work. He emphasized the need for coordinated civil-military efforts to safeguard affected communities, underscoring the importance of governance and inclusive development to minimize human suffering.

Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and senior civil officials joined the COAS during his visit. Munir assured flood victims of continued support for their resettlement and rehabilitation, while the displaced families expressed deep gratitude to the Army for its timely intervention.

The army chief also met troops, Rescue 1122 personnel, and police officers engaged in relief operations, praising their morale and commitment. Later, he conducted an aerial survey of the worst-hit regions to assess ongoing operations.
