Calm returned to Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, after days of violent anti-government protests ended following an agreement between demonstrators and authorities. The protests, led by traders and civil rights groups, demanded better electricity prices, public services, and government accountability.
At least six civilians and three police officers were killed in clashes that rocked the region throughout the week. Under the new agreement, Islamabad has pledged $35 million in development projects to upgrade power and essential services.

Local activists said the movement exposed years of neglect by political elites. “The Awami Action Committee truly represents the people,” said protest leader Shujat Kazmi, criticizing mainstream parties for ignoring public needs.
Traders hailed the outcome as a victory of people’s unity and civic power, calling it “a peaceful revolution” for reform in Azad Kashmir’s governance.
