ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Army launched a decisive military response after Afghan forces resorted to unprovoked firing across multiple border locations, including Angoor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, and Chitral, on Saturday. According to security sources, the aggression was aimed at facilitating the infiltration of Khawarij militants into Pakistan.
Pakistan’s alert border posts retaliated with full force, destroying several Afghan military positions and inflicting heavy losses on both Afghan troops and militant elements. Dozens of attackers were reported killed as the Taliban fighters abandoned their posts and bodies before fleeing under heavy Pakistani fire.
Artillery, tanks, drones, and air assets were deployed to strike ISIS and Khawarij sanctuaries operating near the frontier. Security officials confirmed that Afghan command centers providing cover fire to Indian-backed militants were also neutralized during the operation.
The escalation coincided with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India — a development Islamabad described as “notable and concerning.” Pakistan maintains that masterminds and facilitators of terrorism remain based in Afghanistan, supported by external elements hostile to Pakistan’s security.
Pakistan has urged Kabul to “seal the border” and prevent non-state actors from using Afghan soil for attacks. Officials warn that continued tolerance for such groups threatens not only Pakistan’s security but Afghanistan’s own stability and regional peace.
