China on Monday called on all parties involved in the Middle East conflict affecting the Strait of Hormuz to end military operations and return to negotiations, warning of escalating chaos if hostilities continue.
Speaking on the situation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stressed that continued use of force would create a “vicious cycle” and worsen regional instability. He emphasized that the conflict should not have started and urged all sides to pursue dialogue to prevent further deterioration.
Lin’s comments came in response to questions regarding US President Donald Trump’s pressure on Iran to reopen the strategic shipping waterway. Highlighting the broader consequences, he warned that unchecked escalation could plunge the entire region into turmoil, underscoring China’s call for restraint, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution as the only sustainable path to security in the Gulf region.
