ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday announced a sharp increase in petroleum prices, raising the rates of both petrol and high-speed diesel by around Rs15 per litre for the coming week.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division, the price of petrol was increased by Rs14.92 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs414.78 from the previous Rs399.86 per litre.
The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) was also raised by Rs15 per litre. Following the increase, diesel will now be sold at Rs414.58 per litre compared to the earlier price of Rs399.58 per litre.
The revised prices came into effect from May 9, 2026, and will remain applicable for the next week.
Officials said the latest increase was linked to changes in global oil markets and pressure on the exchange rate, both of which have a direct impact on domestic fuel prices in Pakistan.
The hike is expected to increase transportation and production costs, adding further pressure on inflation and household expenses already affecting consumers across the country.
