WASHINGTON: The United States Central Command has described Pakistan as an important and reliable partner in the fight against terrorism, saying Islamabad plays a central role in efforts against Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) in South Asia.
The remarks were made by Centcom Commander Navy Admiral Bradford Cooper while briefing the Senate Armed Services Committee. He said terrorist threats emerging from Afghanistan remained a shared challenge for countries in the region.
According to Admiral Cooper, strong military cooperation between Pakistan and the United States has led to successful operations against high-profile militants accused of involvement in attacks that killed American citizens. He added that ties between the armed forces of both countries had proven effective not only in counter-terrorism efforts but also in humanitarian assistance.
Referring to the devastating floods in Pakistan in September 2025, Admiral Cooper said American support during the crisis reflected the long-standing partnership and shared commitment between the two countries.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had also announced that a key militant linked to the 2021 attack during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan was arrested with Pakistan’s assistance and transferred to the United States to face justice.
