Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, aiming to reinforce the strong partnership between Moscow and Beijing just days after US President Donald Trump’s visit to China.
According to the Kremlin, the two leaders will discuss strengthening strategic cooperation and exchange views on major international and regional issues. Putin and Xi are also expected to sign a joint declaration following the talks.
Relations between Russia and China have grown closer since the Ukraine war began in 2022, with Beijing maintaining close ties with Moscow despite Western pressure. Ahead of the visit, both leaders exchanged messages marking 30 years of strategic partnership, with Xi describing bilateral cooperation as steadily deepening.
In a message to the Chinese public, Putin said Russia-China relations had reached an “unprecedented level” and stressed that both countries sought global stability and prosperity.
Analysts believe Putin will also discuss energy cooperation with China, as Moscow increasingly relies on Chinese oil purchases amid Western sanctions and the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The talks are also expected to cover the Middle East situation and the impact of global tensions on energy markets.
