A deadly Iranian drone attack on Kuwait International Airport has killed one person and injured more than 60 others, marking a significant escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States and its regional allies. Kuwaiti authorities described the strike as “criminal Iranian aggression,” while the foreign ministry reported damage to several diplomatic missions.
The victim was later identified as an Indian national, and India confirmed that several of its citizens were among the injured. New Delhi strongly condemned the attack and renewed calls for all sides to halt military actions that threaten regional stability.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the strike, saying it was retaliation for recent US military operations, including attacks on an Iranian oil tanker and facilities on Qeshm Island. Tehran also stated that it had targeted US military assets in the Gulf.
The United States said its actions were defensive and confirmed intercepting Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait and Bahrain. In response to the airport attack, Kuwait ordered two Iranian diplomats to leave the country and summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires.
The incident comes as fragile US-Iran ceasefire negotiations remain stalled, raising fears that renewed military exchanges could undermine efforts to reach a broader peace agreement and stabilize the Gulf region.
