Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, Lahore’s traffic police have intensified enforcement against wheelies, reckless riding, underage driving, noise pollution, and other forms of road hooliganism to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow across the city.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi has directed all circle officers to launch a comprehensive and sustained crackdown on wheelies and underage drivers, with particular focus on major and high-traffic corridors.
The CTO said strict legal action would be taken not only against those performing wheelies but also against motorcycle mechanics who modify bikes to facilitate such dangerous activity. He directed that mechanics involved in removing silencers, altering exhaust systems, or making other modifications specifically intended to enable reckless riding be dealt with in accordance with the law. Legal action will also target individuals involved in excessive noise, riding without silencers, removing baffles, and creating public nuisance during Independence Day festivities.
Mechanics to Face Action for Modifying Motorcycles
Awareness campaigns will be conducted at motorcycle markets across Lahore, informing mechanics directly of the legal consequences of facilitating wheelies or illegal modifications. The traffic police have also requested assistance from Lahore Police for door-to-door verification and monitoring of previously identified and repeat wheelie offenders, aimed at preventing them from re-engaging in such activities.
Individuals and social media accounts found promoting, encouraging, or glorifying one-wheeling and road hooliganism will also be monitored and proceeded against under applicable law. Daily enforcement operations, including checkpoints at major and busy roads, will be conducted to identify and apprehend one-wheelers, reckless riders, and other violators.
CTO Shirazi directed officers to ensure visible deployment and effective enforcement at locations already identified as vulnerable to one-wheeling and reckless riding and urged parents to take particular responsibility for their children’s safety by preventing them from taking part in wheelies and other dangerous riding practices.
