Preparations for local government elections in Punjab have reached an advanced stage, with the Election Commission of Pakistan calling on the provincial government for consultations to fix the polling date.
According to sources, the election date is expected to be discussed during an important meeting between the ECP and the Punjab government scheduled for August 20. Groundwork for the polls has largely been completed, including the delimitation of local government constituencies, and once the polling date is finalized, the ECP is expected to issue the official election schedule.
The upcoming meeting is being viewed as a key step toward moving Punjab’s local government elections into the formal electoral phase, with the finalization of the date paving the way for the announcement of the polling schedule and the remaining stages of the electoral process.
