President, PM Pledge Equal Access to Quality Education

[post-views]

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have renewed the government’s resolve to expand access to inclusive and quality education across Pakistan.

In separate messages marking International Literacy Day, the two leaders called on educational institutions and civil society to join efforts to raise literacy levels and strengthen the country’s education system.

President Zardari stressed that literacy must go beyond basic reading and writing skills. He said people also need critical thinking abilities, digital knowledge and practical skills to participate effectively in an increasingly knowledge-based global economy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, meanwhile, said the federal government is coordinating with provincial governments and other relevant stakeholders to develop a comprehensive approach for improving literacy across the country.
