ISLAMABAD: Leaders of former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have reaffirmed plans for nationwide demonstrations demanding his release, despite extensive security measures introduced by the government to prevent protesters from reaching the federal capital.
Authorities have deployed tens of thousands of police personnel in Islamabad, blocked major highways with barricades and issued arrest warrants as part of efforts to stop the planned march.
PTI announced the mobilisation amid growing concerns over the treatment of Khan, who remains imprisoned. The party’s leadership has maintained that the demonstrations will proceed despite the restrictions imposed by the authorities.
