Imran Khan leads prison protests nationwide

LAHORE: The Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, called on his loyalists to gear up for a countrywide “Jail Bharo” movement.

These calls come in the wake of a slew of sedition charges lodged against key figures of the party, including Senior Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry, former National Assembly member Shandana Gulzar, and Senators Azam Swati and Shahbaz Gill who faced criticism for their remarks against the military.

In a nationally televised speech, the former Prime Minister indicated that his party could have gone for a nationwide shutdown, but instead chose to flood the prisons due to fears that the nation’s economy may take a hit if they went on strike.
