Self-help guru, activist and spiritual advisor Marianne Williamson has announced her candidacy for the US presidency in 2024, aiming to challenge cynicism and encourage “dignity and discipline” in politics.
At 70, Williamson becomes the first Democrat to officially enter the 2024 race, denouncing mass incarceration, economic inequity and racial injustice and calling for an “emergency-level transition from a dirty economy to a clean economy.” Williamson has previously run for office in 2020, but with limited success.
While other Democrats wait for President Joe Biden’s official announcement, Williamson has called for a return to a government “of the people, by the people and for the people,” citing Abraham Lincoln.
