A landslide that struck the Torkham border post earlier this week has claimed the lives of eight people as the rescue operation continues to recover the remaining body.

The incident occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, burying around 20 trucks while drivers were preparing for their meals on gas hobs.

While the initial report confirmed two deaths, Pakistani officials reported that the death toll has risen to eight. Torrential rain overnight may have contributed to the landslide, although the cause of the landslide is still unclear.

Rescue services had removed 60% of the debris, but another landslide in the same area caused delays. Road traffic resumed on Thursday, according to Abdul Nasir Khan, the district deputy commissioner.
