KHYBER (republic policy) – A Pakistan Army officer was martyred in heavy gunfire between a group of terrorists and security forces in the Khyber district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media affairs wing, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on the reported presence of some terrorists in the Shakhas area of Khyber on the night between July 5-6.

A gunbattle ensued between some militants who first opened fire on the raiding team. While the establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes of terrorists was underway, a party of terrorists was spotted by Major Abdullah Shah, who was leading the operation from the front.

The officer embraced martyrdom. The 33-year-old officer belonged to Kohat. Security forces managed to arrest three terrorists and their facilitators.

Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate the terrorists present in the area, the ISPR said.

Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism, and such sacrifices of our soldiers further strengthen our resolve, the ISPR statement said.
