President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey expressed discomfort on Thursday regarding what he perceived as the use of LGBTQ symbolism at the United Nations this week. The UN headquarters is currently adorned with vivid colors symbolizing the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to Reuters.

Erdogan indicated his intention to discuss this matter with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as reported by Turkish media. It’s worth noting that Turkey’s government, led by Erdogan and his AK Party, has recently taken a more restrictive stance on LGBTQ rights and freedoms.

“One of the issues that troubles me the most… is that upon entering the United Nations General Assembly, you encounter the LGBT colors on steps and in other areas,” Erdogan was quoted as saying by broadcasters like Haberturk.
