In a troubling incident, 140 cats were discovered abandoned in the arid desert of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, sparking widespread criticism from global animal rights organizations and prompting a government investigation.
These abandoned felines, encompassing various breeds, including non-native Persians, were found in distressing conditions. Some were trapped inside carriers, while others roamed aimlessly across the unforgiving desert landscape, exposed to the harsh elements without sustenance, shelter, or water.
Chiku Shergill, a concerned resident of Abu Dhabi, witnessed this heartbreaking scene as she joined the rescue efforts. Shockingly, these cats were left abandoned right across the highway from the Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter, a facility managed by the government in the residential area of al Falah.
When contacted, the shelter expressed ignorance of the situation and declined to provide any further comments.
Rescuers at the scene have reported a grim tally of 50 deceased cats. However, they have managed to save 95 cats from this dire situation since their efforts commenced on September 28th.
