China’s vice foreign minister engaged in candid and amicable discussions with his Vietnamese counterpart in Hanoi on Thursday, covering various aspects of bilateral relations, land borders, and maritime issues.
The meeting between Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Duong, not previously disclosed by Beijing, addressed the positive momentum in bilateral relations under the current leadership of both countries. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin revealed this information on Friday during a routine press conference in response to inquiries from journalists.
According to Wang, the two sides acknowledged the progress achieved in the establishment and enhancement of border crossings, as well as infrastructure connectivity. They expressed a mutual commitment to transform the Sino-Vietnamese land border into a border characterized by “permanent peace” and “intergenerational friendship and prosperous development.”
