Pakistan People’s Party candidate Syed Owais Qadir Shah took oath as the 12th Speaker of Sindh Assembly.
The polling took place in the Assembly session under the chairmanship of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.
Syed Owais Qadir Shah secured 111 votes out of 147 in the polling, while Sofia Shah, the nominated candidate of MQM, secured 36 votes.
In the polling for Deputy Speaker in Sindh Assembly, People’s Party’s nominated candidate Anthony Naveed was declared successful by getting 111 votes while his opponent MQM Pakistan’s candidate got 36 votes.
Later, while addressing the meeting as Speaker, Owais Shah said that it is an honor for him to be elected Speaker of this Assembly which has a glorious history.
He thanked the party leaders for trusting him. He also thanked the people of Sindh and the people of his constituency for trusting him to represent them in the Assembly.
