The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has recently adjourned a hearing on appeals against the conviction of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case until April 30. The hearing was presided over by a division bench, which included Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, and it involved the appeals of two accused parties. During the hearing, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor Hamid Shah continued to present his arguments.
The prosecutor emphasized that the court needs to consider four key points in this case. Firstly, it needs to determine whether the accused parties received a copy of the cypher or not. Secondly, it needs to ascertain whether the document was received by the accused parties in physical form. Thirdly, the telegram containing the document was sent to Haseeb Gohar FSA. Finally, the prosecutor explained that classified documents, such as pamphlets and books, are referred to as secret documents.
The court took note that Shah Mehmood Qureshi was not accused of missing the cipher document. The prosecutor then requested the court to grant further time for case preparation, after which the hearing was adjourned.
Overall, the hearing dealt with various technicalities and legal aspects of the cypher case, and the court has adjourned the hearing until the end of the month.
