Renowned Pakistani actor Talat Hussain, known for his prolific career in radio, television, and cinema, has passed away in Karachi after battling a prolonged illness. The news of his demise was confirmed by Arts Council President Ahmed Shah, who was informed about the actor’s death by his daughter. Talat Hussain’s funeral prayer will be offered at Masjid-e-Ayesha in Defence Phase 7 after Asr prayers.
Talat Hussain, born in 1940 in Delhi, India, was a legendary figure in the Pakistani showbiz industry. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) before he passed away. Hussain, who studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, received several prestigious awards during his illustrious career, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) in 2021 and the Pride of Performance Award in 1982 from the Government of Pakistan. He was also honored with the Amanda Award in 2006 for the best supporting actor in a Norwegian film “Import Eksport” and the Nigar Award in 1986 for the best supporting actor in the film “Miss Bangkok”.
Talat Hussain’s contributions to Pakistani dramas, insightful writing, and his melodious voice left an indelible mark on the industry. He had a decades-long career in acting, singing, and arts, and also worked for a period for the BBC in London. His notable works include dramas such as “Arjumand,” “Ansoo,” “Bandish,” “Des Pardes,” “Tariq Bin Ziad,” “Eid ka Jora,” “Fanooni Latifey,” and “Hawain”.
Following his passing, condolences poured in from fans, politicians, and fellow actors. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the veteran actor’s demise, highlighting Hussain’s impeccable dialogue delivery and his enduring contributions to television, theatre, and radio. Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani also paid tribute to Hussain’s invaluable services to the arts.
Actor Behroze Sabzwari remembered Hussain as a great personality and teacher, while actor Bushra Ansari described him as an elegant and civilized actor with a remarkable voice. Actor Adnan Siddiqui expressed that Hussain’s passing feels like a personal loss and remembered him as a guiding force during his early career.
