According to data shared by the federal government with the upper house of the parliament, more than 3.27 million Pakistanis, approximately 1.3 percent of the country’s total population, were sent abroad for employment through government channels from 2019 to August 2024. The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOPHRD) informed the Senate that these workers were sent abroad on the demand of the host countries through the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, and Protectorate of Emigrants. However, the data shared by the ministry with the Senate raised questions due to factual inaccuracies and discrepancies in the statistics for various countries.
