The Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday condemned the “reprehensible disrespect” shown by an Afghan official who remained seated during Pakistan’s national anthem at a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government event.

The event, held in honor of Eid-i-Miladun Nabi, was attended by numerous public representatives, officials, and scholars. Afghan Consulate Acting Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir and other Afghan officials were also present. Footage showed the Afghan officials not standing during the anthem, a gesture widely seen as a sign of respect.

FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that this act violated diplomatic norms and conveyed a strong protest to Afghan authorities in Islamabad and Kabul.

This incident follows a recent clash on the Pak-Afghan border, where eight Afghan soldiers were killed, including two key commanders, and at least 16 were injured.
