The renovation of Karachi’s National Stadium is nearly complete as the city gears up to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed that two stadium enclosures will be renamed to honor Karachi’s cricket legends Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan.
The upgrades include the construction of a new building at the far end of the stadium. The players’ area in the building is already complete, while finishing touches such as cleaning and adding partitions are in progress on the upper floors.

During a media visit arranged by the PCB, National Stadium Karachi’s General Manager, Arshad Khan, shared updates on the renovations. Two VIP enclosures, with a combined seating capacity of 1,050, are being prepared in the new far-end building. These will be named after legendary players Majid Khan and Zaheer Abbas. Meanwhile, the existing Majid Khan and Zaheer Abbas enclosures will be renamed for Younis Khan and Nazar Mohammad, respectively. Additionally, the Quaid Enclosure will be renamed as the Shahid Afridi Enclosure.
The new stadium layout has also been adjusted to place the Hanif Mohammad and Javed Miandad enclosures near the players’ area in the Far-End Building, as VIP enclosures are traditionally located nearby. The enclosures near the older building will be renamed after Iqbal Qasim and Naseem-ul-Ghani.
Work on upgrading the lighting system is progressing rapidly, with frames installed on three of the light towers. The remaining towers are expected to be completed within two days, after which the lights will be mounted.

Project Director Bilal Chauhan provided additional details, noting that construction on the main building is almost finished. The ground floor stands and top-floor partitions are expected to be completed by January 28, allowing for the installation of seats soon after.
