Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has written a letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, expressing his concerns about the military’s approach to national security and governance. The letter, sent from Adiala Jail, critiques the establishment’s policies and calls for a thorough review of its strategies.
According to PTI lawyer Faisal Fareed Chaudhry, who shared the contents of the letter with journalists, Imran highlighted what he perceives as a growing disconnect between the military and the public. He emphasized that the fight against terrorism can only succeed if the nation unites behind its armed forces.
Imran further expressed his concerns over the military’s support for individuals who have benefited from past political settlements, specifically referencing the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), which allowed political leaders to avoid corruption charges. He also raised alarms about Pakistan’s economic instability, the conduct of the recent general elections, and the state’s actions against his party.
The letter outlines six key points, urging General Munir to reconsider certain military strategies. Imran argues that the current policies are causing resentment among the public and exacerbating the divide between civilians and the military. He also addresses issues related to the Protection of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), the treatment of PTI members, and the role of intelligence agencies in these matters.
While PTI leaders have framed the letter as an appeal for a shift in policy, government representatives have yet to respond, and the military has not made an official statement regarding the letter.
Imran Khan’s Separate Letter to Chief Justice: Allegations of Election Fraud and Human Rights Violations
In addition to his letter to General Asim Munir, Imran Khan also sent a detailed 349-page letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin, raising serious concerns about human rights violations, electoral fraud, and the mistreatment of PTI workers. Imran claimed that PTI members have been subjected to forced disappearances, injuries, and extrajudicial killings, especially around the time of the general elections.
Imran’s letter reportedly includes reports alleging election rigging, with specific mention of PTI workers being arrested and subjected to violence in late November 2024. He also accused authorities of sealing and altering hospital records to cover up the mistreatment of PTI members.
The PTI leader criticized the judiciary for failing to provide justice, despite numerous petitions regarding election fraud and the continued human rights violations over the past 18 months. Imran reiterated his belief that the current government came to power through fraudulent elections, asserting that the unconstitutional regime has severely oppressed PTI, demolishing its offices and subjecting its leaders to torture.
