Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir said Saturday that the friendship between Pakistan and China is “unique, time-tested, and has remained steadfast in the face of evolving regional and global challenges.”
He made the remarks while addressing a gathering at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, held to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army, according to Inter-Services Public Relations. China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, was the guest of honor at the event, alongside China’s Defense Attaché Major General Wang Zhong, officials from the Chinese Embassy, and senior military officers from Pakistan’s tri-services.
According to ISPR, Field Marshal Munir extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation and congratulated the PLA on its founding anniversary, paying tribute to what he described as its remarkable contributions to China’s defense, national development, and international peace and security. Highlighting the depth of the Pakistan-China relationship, he reaffirmed that the two countries’ armed forces are true partners, bound by mutual trust, unwavering support, and a shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and the protection of common strategic interests.
The Chinese ambassador, in turn, expressed appreciation to the field marshal for hosting the event, acknowledging the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism and reaffirming China’s continued support for Pakistan and its commitment to strengthening the two nations’ all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
At last year’s commemoration ceremony at GHQ, Munir had similarly stressed that the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China would continue to play a pivotal role in regional stability.
Pakistan and China share a longstanding strategic partnership built on mutual trust, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity, with ties expanding over the decades across trade, energy, defense, and infrastructure; the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is chief among the symbols of that shared vision. The two countries continue to deepen cooperation across sectors: companies from both nations signed agreements worth $850 million at a pharmaceutical conference last month, and a day earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with a delegation from China’s National Immigration Administration, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation on immigration, border management, and institutional collaboration.
