Australia made a strong comeback in the Test series against India with a dominant 10-wicket victory in the second Test on Sunday. The match, played under lights at Adelaide Oval, ended on the third day in just 81 overs—the shortest Test between the two teams.
Australia needed only 19 runs to win after bowling India out for 175 in their second innings. Captain Pat Cummins was instrumental in the victory, taking 5 wickets for 57 runs and leading the team to a decisive win in the first session of the day.
India, resuming on 128-5, saw their hopes of saving the match fade quickly as Mitchell Starc dismissed Rishabh Pant early. Nitish Kumar Reddy fought hard for a defiant 42, but Cummins used the bouncer to break through India’s lower order. Australia secured victory in just 20 balls, keeping their perfect record of 8-0 in day-night Tests at Adelaide Oval.
Usman Khawaja scored the winning run, accompanied by opening partner Nathan McSweeney. Cummins praised his team’s performance, stating, “This is how we want to play.” Travis Head, who scored a blistering 140 in Australia’s first innings, was named Player of the Match.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who returned to the team for this Test after missing the first one, acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, saying, “Australia played better than us.” Despite a few bright moments, India couldn’t seize the opportunities that came their way.
The third Test will begin in Brisbane on December 14.
