PESHAWAR: A devastating suicide bombing in a mosque located in the Police Lines region of Peshawar claimed the lives of 32 individuals and left 147 others wounded, according to official sources.
Security officials have reported that the bomber was seated in the front row during midday prayers when he detonated himself, causing harm to many worshippers.
The attack has been claimed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). In addition to the casualties, the mosque’s Imam, Sahibzada Noor Ul Amin, was also killed in the explosion, according to police reports.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Peshawar, where he will be given a comprehensive briefing on the blast and its details. In a statement issued by the PM Office, it was announced that the Prime Minister will also visit those who were injured in the attack and will be accompanied by key government officials, including the Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.
