The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has chosen Fatima Sana as the captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to 20. The decision was made by the women’s national selection committee and 22-year-old Fatima, who has significant experience in ODIs and T20Is, will lead the team.

Fatima Sana’s appointment comes following her previous leadership roles with Pakistan’s emerging and domestic sides, as well as her captaincy during Pakistan’s memorable ODI win against New Zealand in December 2023. She will take over from Nida Dar, who led the team previously and is now part of the squad for the upcoming tournament. Additionally, the squad has seen only one change from the previous tournament, with Sadaf Shamas making a comeback in place of Najiha Alvi as the wicketkeeper-batter.

The team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 includes a mix of experienced players and new talents, with Tasmia Rubab and Sadia Iqbal (subject to fitness) joining the squad. The PCB has also announced Najiha Alvi as the tournament’s travelling reserve.
