At least five Pakistani Umrah pilgrims, including three women, lost their lives in a tragic bus accident while traveling from the historic site of Badr to Madina in Saudi Arabia.
Early reports indicate that most of the victims were from the Bahawalnagar district in Punjab. Among those who died were Rukhsana Bibi and Amina Bibi from Fort Abbas (village 228/9-R), two women from Dahran Wala, and an elderly man, Manzoor Hussain, from 39/3-R.
The bus was carrying a group of pilgrims when the accident occurred. Several others were injured and have been shifted to hospitals in Madina for treatment.
Relatives Mourn the Loss
Muhammad Khalid, a relative of some of the victims, shared his grief with local media, saying, “My sister and two cousins died in the accident while they were on their way to Madina.”
Injured Being Treated at Multiple Hospitals
Hospital sources reported that:
- Four injured individuals, including two women, are receiving treatment at Saudi-German Hospital.
- Three others, also including two women, are being treated at King Fahd Hospital.
- One woman is admitted to King Salman Hospital.
The bodies of two deceased individuals have been moved to both the Saudi-German and King Fahd hospitals.
Consulate Assisting Victims
Pakistan’s Consul General in Jeddah, Khalid Majeed, told that the consulate team is on the ground, assisting the injured and coordinating with the Umrah travel company.
He confirmed that No Objection Certificates (NOCs) have been issued for the burial of three of the deceased in Saudi Arabia, as per the wishes of their families.
Relatives have said that the victims will be laid to rest in the Kingdom, bringing a somber end to what was meant to be a sacred spiritual journey.
