Hezbollah launched a large-scale attack on Israel with rockets and drones, while Israel responded by striking Lebanon with jets to prevent a larger attack. This clash is one of the most significant in over 10 months of border conflict. The missiles left dark vapor trails in the dawn sky, and air raid sirens sounded in Israel. The fighting poses a risk of escalating into a broader regional conflict involving Iran, Hezbollah’s backer, and the United States, Israel’s main ally.
The fighting has resulted in three deaths in Lebanon and one in Israel. Both sides expressed a desire to avoid further escalation but also warned of possible future strikes. Hezbollah’s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, stated that the attack was in retaliation for the assassination of a senior commander last month. He also mentioned the possibility of further strikes if the current ones were deemed insufficient.
Although Israel’s foreign minister stated that the country doesn’t seek a full-scale war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the conflict is not over. Earlier, Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s determination to defend itself and retaliate against those who harm the country.
