Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case related to land in Jhelum. The court was presided over by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri. Fawad has been on judicial remand and was represented by his counsel in court.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Rawalpindi had previously booked Fawad, his cousin, frontman, and others in a case involving the alleged acceptance of millions of rupees in bribes and misuse of authority for the granting of a no-objection certificate (NOC) and acquisition of public land for a private housing society in the Dina area of GT Road. NAB had summoned Fawad in relation to this case.

Fawad, who was once a prominent member of the ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced his departure from the party on May 24. This came after the authorities initiated a crackdown against PTI leaders, workers, and supporters who had allegedly committed acts of vandalism following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan on May 9. Fawad, who had initially planned to take a break from politics, was seen in meetings with disgruntled PTI leaders who later announced the formation of a new party, the IPP.
