An accountability court has granted an eight-day physical remand for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a new Toshakhana reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). They have been ordered to reappear on July 22, following their arrest in relation to the alleged purchase and sale of a jewelry set valued at Rs75 million from the Toshakhana.
This decision comes on the heels of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s acquittal in the Iddat case by a sessions court, which was announced less than 24 hours after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of PTI on reserved seats. However, their relief was short-lived as they were re-arrested by the accountability watchdog in connection to the new Toshakhana reference.

The court’s short order stated to release Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi immediately unless they were wanted in other cases. Despite this, NAB Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon requested their physical remand and the court initially granted a 6-day remand. However, following an appeal by Imran Khan’s lawyer, the judge extended the remand to eight days, with the couple to remain in Adiala Jail during this period.
This recent development has stoked controversy and raised questions about the timing and motivations behind the new NAB reference. The legal counsel for PTI has announced that the couple is scheduled to be presented again on July 22 in relation to this case.
