In a fresh attack aimed at the former military commander, ex-PM, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan took a swing at General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday. He alleged that the ex-army chief had urged him to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine upon his return from Moscow.
During his address to intellectuals via a video link, the ousted premier disclosed the details of his conversation with the ex-army chief. He claimed that he had discussed the procurement of oil at more affordable rates with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but on his return to Pakistan, the chief of the army staff had advised him to criticize Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
When Khan had suggested that Bajwa maintain a neutral stance on the issue, similar to India, the former army chief had surprisingly decided to condemn Russia himself.
To summarize, Khan accused Bajwa of pressuring him to denounce Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, despite his efforts to stay neutral on the matter.
