The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced that the current honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been elected unopposed as the chairman of the world’s premier cricket governing body.
Sourav Shah has held the position of BCCI’s honorary secretary since October 2019 and has also served as the chair of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021. He will replace Greg Barclay, who was elected in November 2020, and will assume the ICC chairmanship on December 1, 2024. Shah was the sole nominee for this prestigious role.
Shah expressed his commitment to expanding cricket’s global reach, especially with the sport set to be included in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
In his own words, “I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before. While building on valuable lessons, we must also embrace fresh thinking and innovation.”
