Interior Minister Calls for UN and International Community Support in Afghan Refugee Rehabilitation

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stressed the importance of the United Nations and the international community in helping with the rehabilitation of Afghan refugees. In a meeting with a delegation led by UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Indrika Ratwatte in Islamabad, Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing hosting of Afghan refugees, stating that the phased repatriation of illegal foreigners has begun and that those with legal documentation are not being targeted. He also announced that the second phase of repatriation for Afghan refugees will commence soon.

Touching on the global issue of terrorism, Naqvi emphasized Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in combating terrorism and mentioned the involvement of banned TTP in terrorist activities within Pakistan, pointing out the use of Afghan soil for these attacks. Naqvi also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in Afghanistan and providing assistance in this regard.

UN Special Representative Ratwatte praised Pakistan’s efforts in accommodating Afghan refugees and its role in the Doha dialogue. He stated that the UN is closely collaborating with the Afghan Government to ensure the permanent rehabilitation of Afghan refugees and strongly denounced the recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan.
