PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Promises Memorable 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is determined to make the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy a spectacular event, ensuring it leaves a lasting impression. Naqvi made this statement during a surprise visit to Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, where he reviewed the ongoing renovation and construction work.

Naqvi, inspecting the stadium’s progress, emphasized the urgency of completing the finishing touches on the main building and drainage systems. He expressed satisfaction with the overall progress and stated that Gaddafi Stadium would be ready in time, with all modern facilities in place for the prestigious tournament. “Insha Allah, Gaddafi Stadium will be completed this month, fully equipped for the Champions Trophy,” he remarked.

As part of the upgrades, new seating, state-of-the-art LED lighting, and new scoreboards are being installed to enhance the fan experience. Additionally, spectators can look forward to an exciting laser light show accompanying the matches.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation also visited Gaddafi Stadium to assess its readiness for the tournament. The delegation, which included ICC officials, broadcasters, and logistics experts, inspected various facilities such as media boxes, dressing rooms, and spectator areas. Usman Wahla, Director of PCB’s International Cricket, provided the ICC team with an update on the improvements being made, assuring that all upgrades would be completed on time to meet international standards.

Gaddafi Stadium is set to host at least four Champions Trophy matches, including the second semi-final on March 5. The tournament, scheduled to take place from February to March 2025, will feature eight teams divided into two groups. Matches will be held across three venues in Pakistan and Dubai, beginning with the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi. The highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India will take place on February 23 in Dubai.

Before visiting Lahore, the ICC delegation also toured the National Bank Stadium in Karachi to ensure its readiness for the event. The six-member team conducted thorough evaluations to confirm all preparations are on track for the tournament.

Group A of the Champions Trophy will consist of Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B will feature Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia.
