An Israeli airstrike on Saturday killed 10 Palestinians and injured at least 20 others at a school in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp, which was being used to shelter displaced families, according to medical sources. The school, which is run by the UN, is still the site of ongoing rescue efforts, as health officials fear there may be more people trapped under the rubble.
There was no immediate response from Israeli officials regarding the strike. Later on Saturday, the Israeli military reported intercepting two rockets fired from northern Gaza at Israel.
These rocket launches highlight the continued capability of Palestinian militant groups to target Israel, despite over 13 months of Israeli aerial and ground assaults that have devastated much of Gaza and displaced most of its 2.3 million residents.
On the same day, Palestinian health officials reported that at least 30 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza. The Gaza Health Ministry has confirmed that 43,799 people have died in the region since the conflict began on October 7, 2023. On that day, Hamas militants killed about 1,200 Israelis, and they are still holding dozens of hostages from the more than 250 taken back to Gaza, according to Israeli reports.
