In Islamabad today, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar highlighted the pivotal role of parliament as the supreme institution empowered to enact legislation. He emphasized that the recent approval of ‘The Elections (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024’ by both the National Assembly and the Senate solidified an existing rule requiring independent candidates to align with a political party within a specific timeframe, effectively transforming this rule into law.

Minister Tarar also raised a pertinent question about the revocation of affidavits submitted by independents to join a particular party while emphasizing that the new law prohibits floor crossing, aligning with the principles outlined in the constitution.

In response to queries, Attaullah Tarar cited positive developments in discussions with Jamaat-e-Islami, expressing confidence in reaching a conclusive agreement during the upcoming talks. He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the needs of the public.
