Mirza’s farewell: Tennis legend retires

Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza, who recently retired from the sport, was overcome with emotions as she gave her farewell speech at the Grand Slam event. The 36-year-old veteran, who first competed in a Grand Slam 18 years ago, is in Australia for her last Australian Open tournament of her career.

During her emotional speech, Sania stated “I just want to start with that if I cry, these are happy tears and not sad tears so that’s just a disclaimer.” She began by extending her congratulations to her opponents, saying “This is your moment and I truly don’t want to take it away, and I genuinely from the bottom of my heart you guys played incredible you deserved to win today, so congratulations and good luck.”

Sania also mentioned that she will be playing a couple more tournaments before officially hanging up her racket. She also reminisced about her career, highlighting that her professional journey began in Melbourne.
