The Foreign Office of Pakistan stated recently that there are currently no discussions happening with India regarding the suspension of bilateral trade that occurred in 2019. This suspension came about following India’s actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that Pakistan considers illegal and unilateral.

In a weekly press briefing, the FO spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Kashmiris for a fair and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, adhering to UN Security Council Resolutions.

The trade suspension took place in August 2019 after India repealed Article 370 of its constitution, which granted occupied Kashmir a special status.

The FO spokesperson also voiced Pakistan’s concerns at various international forums regarding India’s handling of sensitive materials, including nuclear and radioactive substances.

Regarding Pakistani prisoners in India, Pakistan has been exchanging lists of prisoners with India twice a year and is requesting more frequent consular access for Pakistanis incarcerated in Indian prisons.

Additionally, Pakistan condemned the killing of four Kashmiri youth by Indian troops, urging the international community to hold India accountable for its human rights violations in IIOJK.

Furthermore, Pakistan strongly condemned the illegal entry of extremist settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling for immediate action by the international community to safeguard the sanctity of holy sites in Jerusalem.

In other news, the Foreign Office expressed concern over the ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The FO also rejected allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the ouster of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister, stating that the people of Bangladesh have the capacity to determine their future without external intervention.

Additionally, the 7th session of Pakistan-Türkiye Bilateral Political Consultations was held recently, focusing on strengthening cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, energy, security and defense, information technology, culture and tourism, education, and consular matters.
