ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully conducted the flight test of its first indigenously developed Fa’az air-to-air missile, marking a significant milestone in the country’s aerospace and defence capabilities, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Tuesday.

According to the military’s media wing, the missile is equipped with a state-of-the-art terminal guidance system and is capable of engaging aerial targets at longer ranges. The capability is expected to enhance the operational flexibility of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

The ISPR described the successful test as evidence of the technical maturity, innovation and growing self-reliance of Pakistan’s defence industry. The launch was witnessed by senior officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces, as well as the scientists and engineers involved in the missile’s development.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on the achievement.

The successful flight test is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s overall defence posture and further enhance the PAF’s operational capabilities. It also highlights the contribution of domestic scientific and engineering expertise to the development of the country’s defence systems.

The announcement did not provide further technical details about the missile, including its range, speed, platform compatibility or operational deployment timeline.
