Pakistani shooters Gulfam Joseph and Kishmala Talat faced another disappointing outcome at the Paris Olympics 2024 as they failed to secure a spot in the medal round of the mixed 10m Air Pistol team event at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre on Monday. With a total score of 571-17x, the duo finished 14th out of 17 participating teams, falling short of the qualification standard.

This marked the third appearance of Talat and Joseph at the Games. Prior to this event, they had competed in the men’s and men’s 10m air pistol events, finishing 31st and 22nd, respectively. Their journey in the mixed team event, unfortunately, did not yield the desired results.

In a thrilling qualification round, Turkey’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec emerged at the top with an impressive score of 582-18x, matching the Olympic qualification record. They are set to contend for the gold medal against Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec, who scored 581-24x.

Furthermore, India’s Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot secured their place in the bronze medal match with a total score of 580-20x as the India 1 team. They are scheduled to face the Republic of Korea 1 team, comprised of Jin Ye Oh and Wonho Lee, who scored 579-18x.

The qualification round saw the top four teams advance to the subsequent rounds, which include the Gold/Silver Medal Match featuring the top two teams and the Bronze Medal Match involving the 3rd and 4th place teams. The finals of the event are slated for July 30, adding further anticipation to the competition.

Expressing disappointment over the team’s performance, Pakistan’s coach acknowledged the “bad day” at the Games but remained optimistic about future events. Kishmala is slated to represent Pakistan in the rapid-fire sports pistol event on August 2, while the third Pakistani shooter, Ghulam Muhammad Bashir, will feature in the rapid-fire pistol event on August 4. As the Games continue, all eyes are on the upcoming events, hoping for better outcomes for the Pakistani shooters.
