Pay Disparity Between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Other Provinces Sparks Concerns

Documents have revealed a significant pay disparity between police personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and their counterparts in other provinces, particularly Balochistan. According to the documents, the Inspector General (IG) of Balochistan earns Rs369,498 more per month than the IG of KP. Additionally, the salary of a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Balochistan exceeds that of an SP in KP by Rs221,196.

The pay gap extends to other high-ranking positions as well, with Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) and Additional Inspectors General (AIG) in Balochistan earning Rs281,177 more than their KP counterparts. The difference in the salaries of Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) between the two provinces amounts to Rs306,474, while Additional IGs in Balochistan earn Rs322,309 more than those in KP.

In terms of lower-ranked positions, Balochistan constables earn Rs69,885 compared to the Rs69,127 paid to KP constables, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) in Balochistan earn Rs345 more than those in KP. However, Sub-Inspectors in Balochistan receive Rs1,606 less than those in KP, and Inspectors earn Rs363 less. The salary gap for Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) is Rs14,540.

Police personnel in Punjab and Sindh also earn higher salaries than their KP counterparts.

In response to this pay disparity, KP’s Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed has written to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, requesting an increase in police salaries. In his letter, Hameed highlighted the significant sacrifices made by KP police in combating terrorism and the similar security challenges faced by the province compared to Balochistan. He has urged the government to designate KP as a “hard area” and to adjust police salaries accordingly to match those in Balochistan.
