PM Shehbaz Launches CAMS to Expedite Case Resolution and Boost E-Governance

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Case Assignments and Management System (CAMS), a transformative initiative aimed at expediting the resolution of pending government cases. The system will provide real-time tracking of cases, ensuring timely settlements and reducing bureaucratic delays.

At the launch ceremony, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of transparent and speedy justice, noting that unresolved litigation often obstructs the recovery of significant government funds. “This initiative was long overdue and will go a long way in addressing grievances while ensuring justice in a reasonable timeframe,” he said.

CAMS will serve as a centralized dashboard for tracking cases involving different ministries and departments, making their status accessible via government websites. The system is expected to improve oversight, particularly in tax-related cases, where billions of rupees remain locked in prolonged litigation.

The PM also recalled past shortcomings in implementing digital tracking systems, such as the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) track-and-trace initiative, which failed to meet expectations. However, he expressed confidence in the new system, revealing that the FBR is now conducting a trial run of faceless interactions at Karachi port, which will soon expand nationwide.

E-Governance and Judicial ReformsMinister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted the government’s commitment to e-governance, stating that 98.5% of federal work is now conducted through the e-business portal. He also introduced a mobile app for federal laws, ensuring swift updates to legal amendments within 48 hours.

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Representative Troels Vester lauded the initiative, stating that Pakistan’s justice system is moving towards greater efficiency and transparency. He praised PM Shehbaz’s leadership in modernizing governance and legal processes.

Support for Retailers and Youth Training ProgramsIn a separate meeting with the Pakistan Retail Business Council, PM Shehbaz announced the formation of a committee to address retail sector challenges. He assured business leaders of government support while emphasizing efforts to expand the tax net without overburdening existing taxpayers. He also pledged action against smuggling disguised as used goods.

Additionally, the PM approved a three-year training program for young professionals, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equipping Pakistan’s youth with essential skills for the modern workforce.
